Regulate for higher work standards
The construction skill provider should be regulated in order to provide a fair exchange of work quality for fair salary, client to tradesman barter. For too long and too many times this low level mindset of “that go work” has been tolerated. I say tolerated because the “that go work” and the “live with that” attitude has not worked nor has been good enough to live with.
Construction of homes, buildings, bridges, structures in general has a technical element to it. Basically, the understanding of measurements, to know that a 1/32” is not 1/16”.
Allowances should not be allowed without the appreciation for accuracy. Accuracy in layouts, accuracy in execution, accuracy with finishes. This regulatory process, at the least should be mandatory to the extent of a stipulated amount of hours spent training. Not necessarily in a class room although that’s good, but on the job and online.
